About April Smith
April Smith is an experienced educator and author of the book Simplify Your Writing Instruction: A Framework for a Better Writing Block. She began her career in 2008 at a Title One school with a high ELL population. After having the opportunity to work as a district writing coach, she fell in love with supporting (and advocating for) teachers and their students.
SESSION
The Science of Writing: What Leaders Need to Know
The "Science of Reading" research takes a deep dive into literacy instruction, including where writing fits into the puzzle. In this session, leaders will learn what the science says about writing as a part of literacy instruction and how to help teachers incorporate it into the ELA block.
