April began her teaching career in 2008, working primarily in Title I schools. Poor attendance was a frequent issue for her students, so she poured her energy into creating learning activities that were relevant, rooted in real life, and made them want to come to school. This led to her sharing her ideas online through a teacher blog and eventually online teacher training. In 2016, April left the classroom to coach teachers online and work with districts to enhance their curriculum. Her writing program, Simplify Writing®, is currently being used in 6,000 classrooms around the country.
